Leone Renis

Leone (Lee) Renis, 94, went to be with the Lord peacefully in her sleep August 29, 2019 at her son’s house on Elk Lake, surrounded by her loving family. Lee was born October 29, 1924 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Anna and Anthony Obiedzinski. She graduated from Union High School in Grand Rapids and attended the University of Michigan. Lee worked for many years in various administrative capacities and retired from the Michigan Department of Agriculture in Traverse City, Mich. She gave generously of her time, doing volunteer work for Munson Hospital and other organizations. She spent several weeks in Poland, teaching English and tutoring illiterate adults. She had a passion for traditional crafts, especially quilting, and was active in the TAGGS group of Alden for many years. She also enjoyed knitting and was a member of the Elk Rapids Knit and Purl group and generously gave her beautiful creations to those in need. She loved ladybugs and was known to friends and family as Grandma Ladybug. She is survived by husband William Renis (after 63 years of marriage), of Rapid City, son Joseph and his wife Carol of Rapid City, daughters Therese Killeen and her husband Tom of Vienna, Austria and daughter Diane Husson and her husband Emile of Norfolk, Virginia . She is also survived by granddaughters Rebecca Smith and her husband Spencer of Howell, Nicole Killeen and Lauren Killeen, both of Vienna, Austria. She is preceded by her parents and her sister Eleanor. Friends are invited to attend a visitation and vigil Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Elk Rapids. The visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a 7:00 p.m. vigil in remembrance of Lee’s life. A funeral will be held Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Elk Rapids beginning with a visitation at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass from the Order of Christian Funeral at 11 a.m. A private graveside service will immediately follow.
