Obituary of Miriam Brodahl
Miriam Brodahl, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 22, 2019 at the age of 89. Miriam was born in McCook, Nebraska on April 29, 1930 to Hazel and George Legrand Watters. She worked in the Denver Public schools for many years as a lunch room manager before joining the company Mattel to work in inventory. On June 28th, 1948, she married Loren Oscar Brodahl and in their 50+ years of marriage, they raised two sons: Gary and George. Family, friends, and faith were among the most important things in Miriam’s life, and for many years she and Loren were very active with their Koinonia group, where they made many friends. She was quite artistic and enjoyed both oil painting and woodworking and always had a project in the making. Not one to sit still for long, she enjoyed many activities such as golf and bowling and even in her older age wanted to help with everything she could. She and Loren loved to be outside and kept an impressive garden during the many years they lived in Denver (vegetables, corn, and both blackberries and raspberries) and her home was always full of plants that she would proudly display for her neighbors when they bloomed. Being both of Swedish-decent, she and Loren were very interested in their genealogy and even traveled to Sweden to meet their many Brodahl ancestors. She was always a big part of her children’s lives and served as a Scout Master for George and Gary’s Boy Scout troops. Also known as ‘Nanoo,’ a nickname given to her by her grandchildren and carried on by her two great-grandchildren, she loved spending time with them and watching them grow, never missing a birthday party. With her sweet tooth and love of ice cream, she always had a stash of flavors she was eager to share during a visit. Miriam was preceded in death by her father, George, her mother, Hazel, her husband, Loren, her oldest son, Gary, and a child that passed at birth. She was the last living child of her seven siblings. She is survived by her son, George, daughter-in-law, Jean, grandchildren, Kadence and Grant, her great-grandchildren, Henry and Kaily, daughter-in-law Marge (Gary's wife), and many family and friends. A graveside service will take place Saturday, August 31, 12:00 noon at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 8426 S. Hwy 287, Fort Collins, CO 80525. A gathering in celebration of Miriam's life will take place at the home of George and Jean Brodahl, immediately following the graveside service. Please contact George or Jean for more information.
