Boldizsar Darnay

Boldizsar Marie Darnay, also known as “Baldy” to everyone who had come to know him, at 77 years of age passed peacefully on to his Lord and Creator on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 12:20am surrounded by family and prayers of all who knew of his ten-month battle with Alzheimer’s. Boldizsar was born on August 28, 1941 in Budapest, Hungary to Arzen Darnay and Beatrix (Gyulafia) Darnay as their youngest child of three children. After immigrating to the United States with his family in the 1950’s, Kansas City, Missouri became their home, and he was an active participant in High School sports such as Football, Basketball and Baseball. He was an award-winning champion of Casting Tournaments in the Midwest. Boldizsar became a graduate of Lillis High School in May 1959. Shortly thereafter he obtained a job working out-of-state on the Pittsburgh & Midway Pipeline and returned home to marry his cherished partner in life, Margaret E. (Jenkins) Darnay on May 26, 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri. On December 17, 1963 he proudly became a Citizen of the United States of America. While working as a Drafting Engineer for Pittsburgh & Midway Company and helping raise a family of four children, he earned a Degree of Associate Arts from Johnson County Community Junior College in May of 1972. He furthered his career successfully working as a Mining Engineer for Gulf Oil Mineral Corporation in Kansas City, Western States Minerals which took he and his family to Denver, Colorado, and eventually to Black Beauty Coal Mining Company in Evansville, Indiana where they happily raised their family for 17 years. During this time, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Evansville. After a long and successful career, Boldizsar and Margaret retired in Weston, Missouri where they enjoyed the slower pace and closeness of friends and family while occupying his time being a handy-man and carpentry. During all these years, Boldizsar could be found playing a couple rounds of golf, competitively playing in a tennis match, fishing and hunting with his brother-in-law and nephews, camping and playing his harmonica for his family and friends. He never shied away from offering a helping hand to those in need or lending an ear to those who needed to be heard unconditionally. He was a champion for the underdog, and could pull out a joke at the most unexpected times. The nature of humanity was his passion and you would find him to be a willing participant over coffee and a good philosophical debate. He is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Darnay, of a 56-year marriage, his children Gretchen M. (Thomas) Schorege, Bryant G. (Betty) Darnay, Brandon (Lena) Darnay, Adrienne M. (Mike) Clodfelter; his grandchildren Gregory J. Farson, Sergeant Maggie J. Farson, and Alexander Darnay; his step-grandchildren Kimberly A. Schorege and David E. Schorege; a great-grandchild Maylin Rey Schorege; his brother and sister, Arsen (Brigitte) Darnay and three daughters, Susan M. Turner and one son/five daughters, and all his extended family, the Jenkins “Clan”. He is predeceased by his father, Arzen Darnay, his mother, Beatrix Darnay, his mother and father-in-law, Virginia Peterson and Einer Peterson; his sister-in-law Virginia Jenkins Menor; his brothers-in-law, Paul Menor, Rex B. Turner and Gregory W. Jenkins; his nephew, Thomas Hart Benton Turner and great-nephew, Brendan E. Riggs. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of the Oxford Grand Assisted Living & Memory Care Facility for their efforts, care and dedication during this very challenging time in Boldizsar’s life, including the Hospice Caregivers who assisted him through his transition to his spiritual life. A memorial service will be held in Weston, Missouri on Sunday the 23rd day of June 2019 at 1:30pm at the Weston United Methodist Church, 533 Main Street, Weston, Missouri, 64098. As specifically requested by Baldy, please join us in this casual affair to celebrate life and share the love bestowed upon us by him. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the American Red Cross and/or the American Diabetes Association.
