Obituary of Dorothy Marion Brown

IN THE CARE OF

JA Snow Funeral Home

We are very saddened by the death of Dorothy Marion Brown who died in Fredericton, New Brunswick on September 13th. Her last years at Parkland Retirement Residence in Fredericton, were contented ones, lived in the safety and security of her new home, surrounded by the warmth of both staff and friends, and close to her Fredericton family. Dorothy’s 98 years were characterized by hard work and many family related pleasures. She was born and raised in Halifax and lived there the majority of her 98 years. Before marriage she worked at HMCS Ordinance and Moir’s and later in retail at the Halifax Shopping Center. Dorothy was blessed with health, energy, and a steely determination to live a full life, rarely refusing an invitation to socialize or try something new. She took her job as mother and homemaker very seriously and always did her best. She was honest and straightforward in her relationships with others but permitted some leeway around the fact of her real age! Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren greatly admired her resilience and commitment to life. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd Alfred Brown, to whom she was married for fifty-three years and her companion, Doug Casey, whose loving friendship she enjoyed over seven years. She is also predeceased by her dear son-in-law, Joseph MacIntyre, her parents, Joe and Hazel Barrett, and her sister, Mae Korman. She is survived by her four children, Cheryl (Jim Drover), Christine (Morry Appelle), Darlene (Michael Belliveau) and Darrell (Lyuda Bezpala-Brown). She was the proud grandmother of twelve, Tamara (Monique), Allison (Tim), Ian (Natasha), Amy (Jordan), Ben (Rituparna), David (Jill), Craig (Dana), Jarred (Kelsey), Connor, Liam, Mia and Bella. As well, she has twelve wonderful great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Christina, Talia, Naomi, Mia, Elliott, Seth, Grayson, Brynn, Aria, Jackson and Logan. This ever growing family provided interest, stimulation and focus throughout her many years. We all deeply appreciated her presence in our lives and will miss her, always. We are grateful to staff at the Fredericton Hospice who gave excellent end of life care to our mother. The funeral will be held at St. Agnes Church (6903 Mumford Rd., Halifax) on Saturday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Visitation, Friday, Nov. 2nd at Snow’s Funeral Home (339 Lacewood Dr., 7-9 p.m.) In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fredericton Hospice (621 Churchill Row).
