Gordon Maxwell "Max" Hebb Age 90 of Halifax, passed away peacefully May 21 in hospital. He was born in Barss Corner in 1928 to Stephen Lawson Hebb and Grace Mildred Hebb (nee Crouse). He was predeceased by his wife and best friend of 62 years, Marjorie Elizabeth Hebb (nee Rhodenizer). He is survived by his sons Greg (Wanda), Gary (Deborah) and David, brother Robert, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and remembered by Anne Hebb and her family. Max joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1948 and by 1976 he had achieved the ultimate rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He served at bases in Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, England, France, Greenwood, Trenton, Cold Lake, Halifax and a peacekeeping mission with the United Nations Emergency Force in Egypt. Although he left school at an young age, Max was an avid learner and quickly proved himself in Land Vehicle Technology. He was proud of his assignment to the Central Experimental and Proving Establishment. One of his assignments there, developing the capability to refuel hot fighter jets had him working with asbestos, the after effects of which would plague him in his final years. In 1978 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal for his significant contribution to Canada. Max was honourably released in 1983 with 35 years of service to retire at 55 years of age. Max was a devoted husband who was rarely seen without Marge, and he became a dedicated caregiver in her final years. He was especially proud of his sons, who each have his stubborn independent streak - and their families . He lived a life full of interesting experiences, loved fishing, camping with his family and time at the cottage - and was happiest when he was sharing his stories. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11am in Emmanuel Baptist Church of Parkdale- Maplewood, Parkdale.
