Obituary of Harriet Ellen Francis

IN THE CARE OF

JA Snow Funeral Home

Francis, Harriet Ellen, 88, Eastern Passage It is with great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother on November 5th, at Ocean View Continuing Care, with family by her side. Born in Belleoram, NL, September 20, 1930, the third daughter of Albert and Gertrude Cluett (Munden). The tragic sinking of the S.S. Caribou in 1942 took the lives of her mother and two youngest sisters. She moved to the foster care of Betty and Andrew Harris in North Sydney where later she would meet her wonderful husband of 50 years - Louie. They married in Halifax and raised their family. She worked at Sears for 25 years until retirement. For 30 years they camped at Sherwood Forest Campground in Coldbrook, participating in all social events with their many friends. She loved dancing and music, and took every opportunity to join friends and family at every event from picnics at the beach, dining out, theatre, concerts, and celebrations. Her love of travel took her across Canada by railway and flights to warmer destinations of Florida, Las Vegas and the Caribbean with family and friends many times. Her sweet smile, caring nature and zest for life will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Survived by daughters, Carol Elvidge (Len), Eastern Passage; Nancy Kendall (Jim), Williamswood; granddaughters, Jennifer Capon (Steve); Krista Elvidge; Step-granddaughter, Jennifer Durling (Bill); Step-grandson, James Kendall (Michelle); great-granddaughters, Olivia and Abigail; Step great-grandchildren, Meghan, Alex (Kristen), Andrew and Nick; and four step-great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, Louie; sisters, Theresa, Catherine (Beanie) , Abigail, and Vera. A visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Friday, November 9, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held the next day, November 10, 2018 at 1:30 pm at the Emmanuel Anglican Church with a burial to follow at St. John's Cemetery. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. C. Nowlan and all the wonderful staff of Ocean View - Bayside unit for their excellent, loving care and compassion. You have a special place in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ocean View C.C. or the Alzheimer's Society.
