Vasiliki (Koula) Efthimiopoulos, 86 Halifax, formerly of Sydney N.S. (1933-2019) passed away peacefully at the VG Hospital on Monday, May 6, 2019. Born May 3, 1933 in Mylikrio, Greece, she was a daughter of the late George and Sophia Mallas (Riga). In 1958 she went on the greatest adventure of her life and set sail aboard the “Queen Frederica” to join her brother in Canada. She found her way to Sydney, Nova Scotia and fell in love with her new home. Even in her later years she loved a trip back to the island to admire the beautiful scenery and remember the family picnics taken every Sunday to every corner of Cape Breton. While living in Sydney, Koula married Nikolas, in 1960. Together they had two children and from the day they were born she devoted her life to them. Greg and Joanne were blessed to have a mother who showed her love for them every day. Koulas’ next role in life was as yiayia to Christina and Sophia whom she loved with all her heart and spent much of her time with. Koula was known far and wide for her Greek cuisine. She was a loving and caring person who always saw the best in others. Koula is preceased by her husband Nikolas and her sister Voula. Survived by her children, Greg (Kendra) and Joanne (Frank); grandchildren, Christina and Sophia; brothers John (Angela) Mallas, Lea (Athanasia) Mallas; sisters Violetta (late George Patris), Maria (Taki) and many nieces and nephews.
