Obituary of Mary Teresa Hernon
Mary Teresa "Tess" Hernon,90, of Halifax N.S. passed away October 2,2019 following a long battle with cancer. Tess Hernon, daughter of Caritha McInnis and John Forbes Kennedy. Loving wife of James Joseph Hernon. Predeceased by her husband, James J. Hernon, grandson Cory J. Lawlor and brother Jake Kennedy. Tess is survived by her 11 children, Joanne (Bob) Lawlor, Susan Cooley, Michael (Lisa) Hernon, Brian Hernon, Carol-Jane (Jose) Lopez, Theresa (John) Zafiris, Christina Logan, Kathleen (Greg) Flinn, Barbara-Jean (Eddie) Moxsom, Tim Hernon and Maureen (John Sinclair) Hernon. Grandchildren, Kerris Lawlor, James (Nicole) Cooley, Lindsay Cooley, Christian Hernon, Sarah Hernon, James Hernon, Melissa Lopez, Marina Lopez, Conni (Nick Chaffey) Zafiris, Costa Zafiris, Alex Zafiris, Brad Logan, Scott Logan, Brittany Flinn, Matthew Flinn, Victoria Moxsom, Julia Moxsom, JP Hernon, Haley Hernon and great grandchildren, Sienna and Lucia Cooley. Brothers Forbes and Jamie Kennedy and sister Debbie Matheson. As well as many nieces and nephews here and in PEI. Tess was born in Charletown PEI and moved to Nova Scotia to live with her great aunt Louise (DeeDee). She attended Mount St. Vincent boarding school. Tess wore many hats but the one hat that stood out was her love for her family and friends. She never refused a guest for dinner. She was always there with a helping hand in times of need. She was the tireless chauffeur for all the kid's activities. Cottage life was Mom and Dad's true love and that would always involve two or three additional kids friends. Many happy years were spent at Chester Grant watching their children grow. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 67 years and always looked forward to her outings with the sorority gals. Tess volunteered at the Nova Scotia Rehab Centre for many years as well as being a tireless worker for many local charities. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be held at Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax Monday October 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford Street in Halifax, Tuesday October 8th at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. Burial at Gates of Heaven cemetery for family only. Donations to Palliative Care unit at the QEII, or charity of your choice. A very heartfelt thank you to the staff, Unit 7.2 at the QEII for their care and compassion.
