JA Snow Funeral Home

TREVOR GEORGE MACHATTIE It is with great sadness that the family of Trevor George MacHattie announce his passing in Bedford, Nova Scotia, Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at 44 years of age. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 12th, 2018 from 2:00–4:00pm (speeches at 2:30pm) at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. For those who are unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed and can be accessed by visiting www.funeraweb.tv. Trevor is survived by his wife of 17 years Nicole (Todd) MacHattie; his children Ewan (age 13), and Emma Louise (age 12); mother Sheila (Kennedy) MacDonald; brother, Mark (Jade) and many well-loved nieces and nephews. Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1974, Trevor is predeceased by his father George MacHattie. George passed on a great love of the outdoors to both of his sons. Trevor, his brother Mark, and his mother Sheila spent countless wonderful hours at their family cottage outside of Antigonish where George taught his sons to hunt, fish, and appreciate the wilderness. Trevor and Nicole met 24 years ago and soon moved from Nova Scotia to Alberta so Trevor could pursue his education. Marrying in 2001, they welcomed their son Ewan in 2004 and their daughter Emma Louise in 2006. In 2007 they moved back to Nova Scotia, settling in Bedford, and completing their family with the addition of their beloved dog Sammy in 2017. His children were his pride and joy. He loved to cheer for Ewan at soccer and hockey games and Emma Louise at volleyball. Trevor was an avid skier and you could find him most snowy winter days enjoying the slopes with Nicole and his children. A lover of fitness and nature, Trevor enjoyed spending time with his family and friends outside—swimming with his children at Crystal Crescent beach, running, paddle boarding, biking, camping, and passing on his love and knowledge of nature and geology to all. Widely regarded as an expert in his field, Trevor was passionate about geology and giving back to the province of Nova Scotia. He was an accomplished student with degrees from three separate institutions, graduating from St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Science, Honours in Geology in 2000, his Masters in Earth Science from Memorial University in 2002, and finishing his academic career with a PhD in Earth and Atmospheric Science at the University of Alberta in 2008. He started his dream job as a geologist for the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources in 2007 where he worked until his passing. Trevor’s family and friends will miss his kind heart, generosity, and infectious smile—attributes that have all been passed on to his children. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (https://novascotia.cmha.ca/donate/) or SPCA Nova Scotia (https://46189.thankyou4caring.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=298).
