Vasiliki (Bessie) Conistis, 83, of Halifax, N.S. (1935 - 2019) Passed away peacefully at the QEII Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 11, 2019. Born March 25th, 1935 in Kostaika (Kato Vasiliki) Greece, she was a daughter of the late George and Maria Honos (née Farmakoulas). Vasiliki left Greece in 1959 to follow her brother John to Halifax. In 1961 she married Dimitrios (James) and together they raised three children. Vasiliki was a loving and caring person who always saw the best in others. Her warmth, her smile and especially her unique jovial laugh brought happiness to all around her. Vasiliki was a devout member of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church and a member of St. Catherine’s Philoptochos Ladies Auxiliary. Vasiliki loved volunteering both her time and her culinary skills for numerous community events, most notably the annual Greek Food Festival where she could be found tirelessly serving Greek delicacies. Vasiliki loved to sing, and many times over the years at family gatherings it was not unusual for her to break out in song, even taking the mic at family weddings. Her love of song and her faith also led her to be part of the church choir. Vasiliki was a supportive and loving mother who was very proud of her children and their accomplishments. She instilled in her children the values of hard work, honesty, and above all, kindness. The greatest joy of her life were her grandchildren, whom she doted on. They had many happy, laughing times with “Yiayia” who loved a good joke. Vasiliki is predeceased by her husband Dimitrios, and sisters, Fotini, Alexandra, Eleni, and Athena. She is survived by her children Angela (George) Iatrou, George (Tammy) Conistis, Costas-Dinos (Julia) Conistis, and grandchildren Alexandra, Katya, Olivia, Victoria, Dimitri and Émilie. She is also survived by brothers Niko (late Georgia) Honos, John (Efrosini) Honos and sister Panagiota (Niko) Eleftheros and many nieces and nephews both in Canada and Greece. Many thanks to the wonderful and caring professional medical staff on 6.1 of the QEII hospital for their wonderful care and support. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 14 at 2-4pm and 6-8pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 15 at 1:00pm at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 38 Purcell’s Cove Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church.
