Obituary of Annie Jazvac
Annie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in her 88th year. She came to Schumacher, Ontario in 1952 with her mother Ljuba and brother Vinko (Vince) to join her father Vid Frankovich. Vid spent years going back and forth to Bosiljevo, Croatia, while he established a Canadian home for his family. Annie was a courageous, hard worker, who cared for these now deceased family members as they went through their own passages. Without complaint and in defiance of self-doubts, she did whatever was needed to care for family. In her forties Annie went back to school, not only completing an education in accounting at Niagara College, but graduating at the top of her class. She worked until suffering a debilitating stroke sixteen years ago, followed by a succession of health issues. Annie, a longstanding member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, was an embodiment of the immigrant survivor. Caregivers were often stunned by her dogged insistence on attending to tasks that the far more able bodied required assistance with. That was Annie, in a nutshell. Annie will be greatly missed by her children Walter (Laurie) and Daniel as well as Frankovich, Bogdanic, and Laslavic relatives. Visitation at the Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, 1883 King Street East on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 9 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
