It is with deep sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved Mother Betty Florence MacFarlane (nee Bryson). Mom passed away on Sunday June 9. 2019 in Hamilton, in her 97th year. Betty was born on August 3, 1922, in Hamilton to Matthew and Hazel Bryson (deceased). Predeceased by her siblings, Norma (Harold) Heal and Ron (Shirley) Bryson. In 1948 she married John Douglas MacFarlane (deceased 2003). Mom is survived by her adoring children John MacFarlane, Deborah and Paul MacLanders and Douglas MacFarlane. Predeceased by daughter Linda. Loving Grandmother to Douglas MacFarlane, Andrew MacFarlane (Amanda Golden) and Grand Daughter Debbie Sheran and predeceased by grandson Ryan MacFarlane (2002). Great Grandmother to Ryann and Jack MacFarlane and Tyler Heroux. Mom will also be missed by her extended family Christina MacLanders, Lori Balloch and Russ and Mary Charters. She will also be very missed by her faithful furry companion Marley. Mom worked at Westinghouse Canada for many years from where she retired. She was a familiar face at the Tiger Cat Games back in the day where she worked part time at the concessions. She has forever been an avid Tiger Cat fan. Never call her when a game was on, she couldn’t get you off the phone quick enough. She also worked at a number of grocery stores doing her in store demos as well as the HWSB working with children during the lunch programs. Mom was a loving, generous and selfless soul with a heart of gold who always put everyone else before herself. Her family was her 1st love and her friends were always held near and dear to her heart. Mom enjoyed her trips to the casino with her son John. Anyone that met Mom grew to love and respect her. Mom’s sense of humour, her infectious smile, gentle and kind giving nature and her love for everyone she met will forever be remembered. We would like to say a very Special Thank you to Dr. Alipio, Mom’s caring and loving physician who has been a pillar of support to our family. Thank you for your home visits, your encouragement, your love and your concern. Thank you to Dr. Carlisle and the Nephrology staff at St. Joe’s, LHIN and VON for their assistance in coordinating Mom’s at home care and the VON Palliative Care Team who were amazing. Mom’s Home Care Angels from Capabilities and all the staff behind the scenes and St. Elizabeth’s. To Mom’s friends that supported her over the years, especially the wonderful people at Royal Vista whom she loved immensely and who loved her, thank you. Mom’s friends and staff at Tim Horton’s where Mom was a fixture for many years on Upper Gage and Fennel who were there to support her and us to the end. To the wonderful and amazing staff of Bob Kemp Hospice we cannot thank you enough for your incredible compassion, emotional support and the dignity with which you have shown Mom and our family the last days of Mom’s life, you are “Heaven’s Angels on Earth”. A service to celebrate Mom’s life will be held at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennel Avenue East, Hamilton on Friday June 14th. at 11:30 a.m. followed by a light luncheon. Memorial donations may be made in Betty’s name to The Bob Kemp Hospice, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, and The Hamilton SPCA.

What an incredible life and an incredible lady! Strong and determined! One of a kind! She was and will always be a Matriarch to her family and friends and the many who loved her. Beautiful inside and out. I will truly miss her beautiful smiling face and kind demeanour.

I will forever be thankful when she helped me when I was in need with no questions asked and how she always treated me and my daughter with love.

She will never be forgotten.

Pin pointing one memory of Nana is tough, there are too many. I’ll always cherish the warm hugs that Nana would give. The “Do the kids want a cookie?” right when we walked through her door and everything else in between. We love you so much Nana. Hope you are up there dancing in the rain ♥️
