Obituary of Clifford Roy Gowers
GOWERS, Clifford Roy. The last branch of the Gowers family tree has fallen. Predeceased by 7 sisters and 3 brothers, the children of Fred and Pearl, C. Roy Gowers made a peaceful transition on Friday, May 10, 2019 having just celebrated his 86th birthday. Husband to Terry for over 64 years (mostly good, some crummy), Dad to two terrific daughters, Lee and Kelly, father-in-law to Dale Chapman and Ray Butkevicius, Poppa to Errin, Garth, Steven and Rebecca and Uncle Roy to lots of nieces and nephews. Roy wished the best for his good friend, Bruce Blanchard. A 37 year employee of Westinghouse, he ushered at Tiger-Cat games for over 40 years and was Sgt. Gowers in the RCAF 424 Squadron (Aux). Roy enjoyed growing tomatoes, watching sports (Go Jays, Leafs and Duke Blue Devils!) and doing crossword puzzles. In 2003 he was the recipient of a donated kidney – we are eternally grateful to the courageous family of the donor. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone in the hemodialysis unit and on level 7 – Nephrology at St. Joe’s for their TLC of our dad over the past 19 years. The family will be happy to see you at the Cresmount Funeral Home-Fennell Chapel on Wednesday, May 15 from 6 – 9 and Thursday, May 16 from 11 to 12. Service to follow. Private interment. If you wish to honour Roy please consider a donation to the VON or to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation (hemodialysis unit renovation). Please don’t take your organs to heaven: heaven knows we need them here. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cresmountfennellchapel.com for the Gowers family.
