Obituary of Eric Bert Deys
With broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Eric Bert Deys on Sunday, May 5th at the age of 54. Beloved husband of 30 years, soulmate and best friend of Lisa. Dearest father of Eric (Justin), Deanna (Matthew), and Dayna (Jonathan). Predeceased by parents Philip and Mary Deys and father-in-law Brownie Bodo. Loving son-in-law of Tilda Bodo. Loving brother and friend of Fred and Deb, Bill and Carol, Linda and Jane, Rick, Mary-Anne and Joel. Dear brother-in-law of Barry and Annette Bodo. Eric will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Eric graduated from McMaster University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Computer and Electrical. He began his career at NCR in Waterloo and also worked at COM DEV, Wescam, Gennum, Sigma Designs, and Synopsys. Eric was a member of Professional Engineers Ontario and was the recipient of the Synopsys Award of Excellence as a result of his tireless efforts and dedication to his work. He also found time to mentor engineering graduates at McMaster University to help them transition into their careers. He was a proud board member of Connecting Countries which promotes health and education through latrine building and water harvesting in Kenya. He was about to fulfill his dreams of travelling to Kenya to make a difference. He was an active volunteer in numerous community organizations and fundraising events. Eric will be remembered for his love of guitar and live music, stamp collecting, cycling, canoeing, hiking, travelling, and most of all spending time with his family. Even in Eric’s passing, he continues to help others through organ donation and would encourage all of us to do the same. As expressions of sympathy donations can be made to Connecting Countries or the charity of your choice in Eric’s memory. Visitation will be held at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street E.
