Matt Skihar
April 16, 1926 – April 11, 2019

Just short of his 93rd Birthday, Matt passed away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas.
Predeceased by Anne in 2005, his wife of 55 years. Forever grateful for his love are daughters Marlene Dewey (Richard) and Val Cannon (Gary); grandchildren Kristina Minard (Mike), Justin Cannon (Janie), Ariel Amaral (Steve), and Tiffany McCarthy; great-grandchildren Gavin and Gage Minard, Ariana and Oleyna Cannon and Kai Amaral. Predeceased by siblings Metro, Nick, Kay (Zuchkan), Bill, John, Alex, Steve and Joe. Survived by sisters Alexandria Novak and Alice Wehnan, sisters-in-law Helen Ternowski and Elsie Genoway, and many nieces and nephews. Matt retired from Stelco after 28 years. Well known for his carpentry skills, he also enjoyed golf, time at his trailer with family and friends and playing SKIP-BO. He will be remembered for his kindness, willingness to help others and sense of humour. Special thanks to Amanda and Brenda at Living With Purpose Senior Care for their compassionate companionship. Heartfelt thanks to the extraordinarily warm and caring staff at Wentworth Lodge, Matt's home for the past 3-1/2 years, where he enjoyed the many activities and crafts provided. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Recreation Department at Wentworth Lodge would be welcomed. Visitation at the Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King St E (at Kenilworth) on Monday, April 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 9:00 am on Tuesday, April 16. Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery. Matt will always be remembered for his wonderful smile.
