Vlado (Walter) Jankovic

Peacefully, at the Hamilton General Hospital on Monday, April 29, 2019 in his 87th year, surrounded by his family and friends. Beloved husband of Ivka for 59 wonderful years. Loving father of Frank (Donna), Walter (Nadia), and Maryanne (Marc Mitchell). Proud Dida of Mark, Daniel and Eva. Vlado will be dearly missed by his extended family and many friends. He immigrated to Canada from Croatia in 1958, eventually settling in Hamilton where he met his wife to be, Ivka. A long time parishioner of Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church and active member of the Croatian community. Vlado retired from International Harvester/J.I. Case after over 30 years of dedicated service and enjoyed over 25 years of retirement. He was blessed with many friends and enjoyed an active social life. A few of his favourite outings were going to picnics, meeting friends for coffee and discussing current events . A great sense of humour, Vlado had a way with words and spoke at many different celebrations. He enjoyed traveling all over, especially the many trips to the United States to visit his beautiful grandchildren. Vlado loved playing music, his garden but nothing surpassed the love he had for his family. He often reminded his family that he had lived his life far beyond what he had dreamt of. Visitation at the Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 5-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, 1883 King Street East on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
