Walter (Vlado) Vlasic

With great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father and Deda on January, 24 2019 in his 86th year. Loving husband of Millie for 54 years. Cherished Father of Helen & Ed Frlan, Peter & Silvia Vlašic and Joey & Jessie Vlašic. Adored Deda of Paulina, Niko, Mario, Marko, Matteo, Joseph, Davor & Dario. Walter was born in Gornje Prekrižje, Croatia on July 13, 1933. Predeceased by his parents Nikola & Jela Vlašic and in-laws Peter & Milka Habjan. Dearest brother of Slavica (Miro), Mijo (Pavica), Vilka (Kreso), Nada (Dragan), Sister Nives (Andjelka), Zlata (Andrija), Ivica (Barica), Ruzica (Miki), Ljubica (Ivica) all in Croatia and Dragica (John) Mlinaric and Family of Oakville. Loved brother-in-law of Peter (Olive), John, Antonia (Joe), Mary (John), Paul (Susie), Joey (Michelle), Tony (Dubravka), Frank (Angie) and Andy (Carol). He will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and Kumovi in Canada and Croatia. Walter was a proud employee of Dofasco for 34 years, a member of the Croatian National Home for over 50 years, the Croatian Men's bowling League for over 30 years and "Coach" for the Croatian Men's Hockey Team. He will be remembered for his humor, charm and infectious smile. Walter loved his Maple Leafs, playing chess, dancing and Tambura music, but above all his family. Special thanks to the Arbour Creek staff (especially the 2nd floor) and Dr. Phan and Dr. Hornich who took care of Walter for many years. Thanks to Father Marijan and Father Toni from Holy Cross Church and Father Charlie from Incarnation Parish. Visitation will be held at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth), on Sunday, January 27th from 2-4 pm and 6-9pm with Vigil Prayers to be said at 7:30pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Parish, 1883 King Street East on Monday, January 28th at 9:30am. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter to Holy Cross Croatian Parish or the Croatian National Home Tambura /Building Fund would be sincerely appreciated by his family.
