Reeves Funeral Home

Eugene Robert “Bobby” LaBorde, age 67, returned to the Lord on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 with his family at his side. Bobby was born in Pineville, LA on April 26, 1952 to Eugene and Dorothy (Maples) LaBorde. He grew up in Marksville, LA and joined the armed forces in July of 1974 as a plumber for the United States Army. He served honorably with pride for four years in active duty and reserve status. He later graduated from St. Philips College in San Antonio, TX with Heating and A/C certification where he honed the occupation of maintenance and repair. With this skillset, he also accomplished water well metering and servicing for the greater San Antonio area. While managing two apartment complexes, he discovered his greatest achievement was his adept ability to fix and repair appliances of all types. Bobby had the spiritual gift of hospitality which compelled him to feed the soul with his love of cooking. With his Cajun roots in Louisiana and Tex Mex flavor, he served the homeless of downtown San Antonio, Texas as part of the “Church under the Bridge” soup kitchen ministry for many years. Eager to please people with his sense of humor, he connected easily in conversation. He never met a stranger and fostered friendly company anywhere he went. Endearly named “Friend” by Amira, Grace’s teenage granddaughter, Bobby lovingly adored the relationships and family that he created. Always willing to help his family, Bobby became a caretaker of Grace’s Aunt Naomi, with whom he loved watching Westerns. Bobby embraced relationships he regained later in life by sharing his love for cooking, fishing, gardening, and hunting. Faithfully calling to tell them he loved them every birthday and holiday, Bobby’s greatest blessing and favored accomplishment was the love of his children, grandchildren, and beloved Grace. Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Eugene LaBorde, mother Dorothy Maples LaBorde, ex-wife Mary Annette Scott, accepted mother-in-law Francis Dole Willaby and accepted stepson Paul Joseph “Joey” Meuse. He is survived by his beloved friend of 26 years, Theadus Grace Meuse; her children William Carl Hewitt (Michelle) and Georgia Ann Velezquez (Paul); his daughters and their spouses: Amanda (Derrick Joe “DJ”) Patrick, Heather (James) Litman & Jennifer LaBorde (Matthew Edwards), his grandchildren: Jalen, Katelynn and Rylan Patrick, Mark and Christopher Litman, Leonidas, Thaddeus and Atlas Edwards, and Grace’s grandchildren: William “Thorton” Hewitt, Zackery Buske, Tiffany Gabrielle Alohas, Meagan Nicole Malone, Katie Gomez, Blash “BJ” Williams (Jackie), Briana Stripling (Travis) and Amira Velazquez. He is also survived by his siblings, Sue (Charles) Calkins, nephews Brad (Carrie) Calkins, Josh and Owen Calkins; Thomas LaBorde; Johnny LaBorde, his nephew John Michael; and Patsy LaBorde. We invite your prayers and fellowship at a Celebration of Life held at Crystal Springs Chapel, 1465 Crystal Springs Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28306 in the Hope Mills Community Sunday, June 2nd at 3pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 5th at 9:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate Drive, San Antonio, TX 78216. Committal of ashes immediately following with Military Honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, shelter 5 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, “Same ole, Same ole…Let’s Play it By Ear!” would be one of Bobby’s famous last catch phrases. “Afterwhile, Crocodile!” “See Ya Later, Alligator!” “Not too soon, Baboon!”
