Mabel Agnes Mazoch

Mabel A Mazoch died peacefully and went to be with the Lord in the early morning of September 6, 2019. She lived during a time of transition. Mabel was born a year after the flight of Charles Lindbergh from the United States to France. She also experienced Sputnik 1, Apollo 11, to Space X’s recent launch of a red Tesla car into outer space. Comic page charter Dick Tracey’s two way watch/radio came to reality with Apple. Mabel grew up during the economic disasters known collectively as the Great Depression, lived the home front of the World War II, and was part of the “Greatest Generation”. She also remembered the street cars of Houston Electric and rode the current Metro Rail. Mabel was born near Schulenburg, Texas in 1928 to Agnes (Bednarz) and Joe F Haas. Because the family rented various farms in the area, she attended various one room schools in the countryside, plus a small amount of time at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and the Public Schools in Schulenburg. She spent some time as a young adult working in doctors’ offices and drug stores as a receptionist or cashier. She became a full time housewife after having her first son. After the war, she married Lawrence O Mazoch. From that happy union came Michael Ray Mazoch, aka, Dominic, and Melissa A Mazoch. Lawrence and Melissa have preceded Mabel in death. Remembering her besides Michael will be here two grandchildren, Brodie and Kylie Waibel. Because of the experiences of the Great Depression and the Home front, Mabel knew how to be economically and environmentally “green”. She instilled concepts like paper and can drives, “trip chaining”, and other ideas before such became common place in the 1970’s. Mabel was more comfortable when Michael was travelling on METRO, the local transit agency, than driving one of the family trucks. Plus she encouraged Michael to speak out at Harris County, City of Houston, and METRO meetings. Galveston Island, east of 25TH/Rosenberg, was an area she loved to visit. She thought of The Strand - the old homes and the Tall Ship ELISSA - as “The Land that Time Forgot”. She had several hobbies. Working in the yard as a gardener, and watching current and reruns of LAW AND ORDER, and LAW AND ORDER: SVU. Two animals were her favorites: hummingbirds and box turtles. In the back yard she had some box turtles. Big Bertha, was her favorite adult turtle. The two of us found 3 babies in the back yard. Michael made an indoor box for them to grow up in. Until her recent illness, she played with them every day. She called them the “Three Musketeers”. She will be missed by all. A visitation will be held in her honor on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. inside the Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, during which time a Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will commence on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 12:00 p.m., after which she will be escorted to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Lawrence.
