Obituary of Jack Woodward Coffey
Jack W. Coffey passed away November 3, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born September 19, 1928, he was a life-long resident of Kansas City. He attended Border Star Elementary School, Kemper Military Academy, and the University of Missouri. While growing up, Jack developed a close relationship with his uncle, Dr. Ralph R. Coffey, and spent many carefree hours going on hospital rounds with “Uncle Doc” and spending time at his grandparent’s farm in Parkville. Following graduation, he was employed at General Hospital for more than 30 years as a purchasing agent. Jack often recounted stories of train travel and attending baseball games with his parents. In 1937 Jack and his father went to see a Yankees spring training game, where he was able to obtain a baseball autographed by both Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. He was very proud of this and derived much pleasure through the years from two hobbies that evolved from these experiences, amassing extensive sports memorabilia and train collections. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Claude R. and Irene Woodward Coffey, as well as his cousin Annette Coffey Walker. Graveside services for family and friends will be held at Mt. Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes, on Monday, November 10, at 10:30 a.m.
