Obituary of Hazel J. Fellendorf
Hazel J. Fellendorf, 95, resident of Keene, NH since 1988, died May 15, 2019 with family at her side, at Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT where she had currently been residing. Born on November 8, 1923, Hazel was raised in Scranton, PA by loving parents Frank and Emma (DeWitt) Maisey. Frank stayed fully employed during the Depression due to his skills as a brick layer, which allowed the family to enjoy life during hard times. Hazel had happy memories of spending time with cousins at the lake. An only child, she sought out the company of others during her entire life. She was raised in the Methodist Church, studied the Bible faithfully, and especially loved the “old time hymns” of the early twentieth century. After high school Hazel attended secretarial school in Scranton. Hazel met George Fellendorf in Schenectady, NY where she was working for General Electric at the time. They married in 1946 and lived in Sea Cliff, NY on Long Island for 8 years, Easton, PA for 4 years, Silver Spring, MD for 25 years and Keene, NH for 30 years. They were married for 66 years until George died in 2013. Hazel deployed expert administrative talents her entire life. She skillfully and lovingly raised a family of three girls, helped her deaf daughter learn listening and speaking skills, supported an ever busy husband George who had numerous interests in addition to his career as a nonprofit executive, and volunteered extensively at church. Her secretarial talents and warm interpersonal skills gained her the job as executive assistant to the president of a bank in Maryland, a role which she adeptly filled for over a decade until retirement at age 65. Hazel belonged to Calvary Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, MD and in 1988 joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Keene where she remained active in church and the church’s school throughout her membership. She was a great public reader of Bible passages and held deep Christian beliefs which sustained her throughout her life. Hazel will be dearly missed by her family: daughter Carol Barbierri and her husband Richard of Shaftsbury, VT, daughter Joyce Jackson and her husband Craig of Seattle, WA; grandchildren: Ramin Mousavi and his wife Aimee, Kamran Mousavi and his spouse Alynn, Cara Battistoni and her husband Russell, Cody Barbierri and his wife Stephanie, Collin Jackson, and Ashley Jackson and her husband Reed; and great-grandchildren: Brandon, Miranda, Milo, Luca, Hudson, Knox, and Nico. She was predeceased by her husband: George Fellendorf; daughter: Linda Mousavi; and son-in-law: Hossein Mousavi. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in support of Trinity Christian School in Keene, NH where Hazel and George devoted extensive volunteer time. Gifts should be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Avenue, Keene, NH 03431, in honor of Hazel Fellendorf. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday May 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Ave, Keene NH. Burial will be private.
