Obituary of Margaret Theresa Froment/McLarty
The family of Margaret announces her passing on May 25th, 2019 at the age of 108 years. Margaret will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children Glen, Dorraine, Lew (Mela) and Al (Sharon). She will also be lovingly remembered by 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren, brother Vern Samson, as well as members of the Froment family, who she loved as her own family. Margaret was predeceased by husband Ernie McLarty, son Dale, daughter Delaine, granddaughter Val, two sisters, two brothers, and second spouse Phil Froment. Margaret was born August 25th 1910 in Eden, South Dakota, the oldest of 6 children. She moved to Canada at a young age, eventually met and married Ernie, which resulted in a family of six children. Surviving the sometimes harsh conditions of life Margaret worked tirelessly, a trait that came naturally for her. Over many years and numerous locations and homes, working and raising children, Margaret & Ernie settled in Westbank, in the late 70’s, to enjoy retirement. It was there she remained, rather than moving closer to family, declaring Westbank as her home. Margaret was an incredible baker, and amongst other things loved gardening, taking great pride in her vegetable garden and flowers. She also loved travelling and in so doing saw much of the world. Her many trips to Spain provided her with many special memories. Her family continue to prepare her many recipes, especially her famous angel food cakes and cinnamon buns. Margaret was proud of her very large family and, until recently could recall all their names and their birth dates. Margaret always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile wide as a mile when hugging her grandchildren. She made family and friends welcome to her home, and a visit with her was unforgettable, as she insisted on her guest book being signed. She was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, friend and possessed an amazing sense of humor to the end. Margaret’s family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful staff at Lakeview Lodge, in Westbank, who showed so much love and compassion in their care of her in her final years. Margaret left an indelible memory in the hearts of all who knew her, and will be sorely missed. Now Margaret can rest peacefully in knowing God did not forget her. Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2547 Hebert Rd, Westbank BC, on Friday June 21st, 2019 at 11:00AM. Flowers gratefully declined. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at ww.valleyviewfuneralhome.com for the family.
