Obituary of Pauline Kindrachuk
Pauline Kindrachuk passed away peacefully at her home on February 23, 2019. Pauline was born in Myrnam, Alberta on September 28, 1925 to parents Nicholas and Nastia Metrunec. She had 4 brothers and 4 sisters and completed her high school in Myrnam, Alberta in 1944. In 1948 she completed a two year Dressmaking course at the Technical school in Calgary, Alberta and operated a dressmaking shop in Myrnam after graduation. Pauline married Peter Kindrachuk on October 18, 1947. Their sons Eugene and Zenon were born in 1951 and 1953 respectively. They were members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and were very involved in its activities. In August of 1956 the family moved to Vernon B.C. where they owned and operated the Arlington motel for 10 years. In April of 1958 they were blessed with a daughter, Sonya. Pauline had become a member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association in Myrnam in 1950 and continued in the St. Olha Branch in Vernon. She held several positions on the executive including president. She taught Ukrainian, Sunday School, Easter egg writing and was convener of the Ukrainian Women’s Journal Promin for many years. She took part in concerts, sang in the choir and played the mandolin. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, Scrabble, scrapbooking family photos, reading and did sewing alterations for friends. In June of 1966 they sold the motel and Pauline went to work as a seamstress at Robert’s Cleaners until she retired in 1990. Peter and Pauline travelled extensively over the next 10 years, visiting Ukraine, the Holy Land, Europe, Disney World, the Epcot Center and the John Kennedy Space Center. Pauline spent her later years in Carrington Place in Vernon which she enjoyed very much. Pauline will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by sons Eugene (Barb) of Denver, Zenon of Vernon, daughter Sonya (Keith) of Edmonton ,three grandchildren, David Kindrachuk (Kelly) of Denver, Dr. Alison Traylor (Matt) and Jazlynn Steinbach of Edmonton, two great-grandchildren, Nate and Alexander Kindrachuk of Denver, sister-in-law Olga Metrunec of Vegreville, Alberta, close friend Doris and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service in Pauline’s memory on Monday March 11, 2019 at 11 am at St. Mary Orthodox Church 4105 – 27 Street in Vernon B. C. Father Chad Pawlyshyn will perform the service. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Promin 10611 – 110 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5H 1H7 or to a charity of your choice.
