James 'Jim' Day

James Frederick Day February 29, 1940 – November 18, 2018. We are saddened to announce the passing of a very dear man. Jim was predeceased by his mother Margret Day, his father Thomas and his step mother Addline and by his first wife Diane - her parents Achille and Anne Dufresne and his second wife Jean and her parents Daisy and Oakly Gough , his brother in law David Orosy, Jean’s sisters Shirley Wilson and Doris and her husband Russell Philips, Jean’s brother Doug Gough and by his great grandson Lucas Dubray. He is survived by his wife Jane Ellen (nee Whiting), his son Todd and daughter Michele (Ali) Randle. Grandchildren Brandi (David) and Jarrett; Jenny, Ricki (Kevin) and Jami; great grandsons Brock and Jacob and Kevin’s children Kaylen, Jessalyn and Jaci. Also missing him are Jane’s family and daughters Kathy LeNabat (Dean) and Vicki Wyder (Sean); granddaughter Kayden. Forever remembered by his siblings Sharon Neniska (John), Robert Day and Shirley Orosy; by his brothers in law Art Gough and Al Gough and his wife Bev and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim lost his mother at the age of 3 and 2 wives, all to illness. He cherished the women in his life – his sisters and his daughter. He was very proud of his grands and his great grandchildren and often boasted of their accomplishments. Throughout his life Jim worked at many jobs. He retired after 24 years at Bell Canada in 2004 and then enjoyed 13 seasons of driving truck for Lawrence F. Derouard Trucking. He was a member of the City of Kenora planning committee for several years. Jim was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12 Kenora serving as President as well as chairing many committees over the years. Some will remember him as Nevada or Bingo chairman. He also served as Poppy Chair for 13 years. He was Branch 12 Sgt at Arms at the time of his passing. He was very proud of the current Colour Party and their dedication to preserving the rituals of the Legion. Jim was a traditionalist – he was a no-hats-on-in-the-house, hold-the-door-open-for-others kind of man. He gave and commanded respect. He loved to dance and was good at it. He also loved to sing. Jim was an expert handy man, he could build and fix anything. Even new things were not “his” until enhanced in some way by him. We visited many hospitals and clinics in Winnipeg over the past two years. Special thank you to those who drove us there and back – Robert Hollins, Sean and Vicki, Dawn Whiting, Chuck King, Randy Lillico, Mike Alvestad and Dave Procyshyn. Hugs to those who visited Jim while he was house bound Michele and Ali Randle, Dawn Whiting, Kathy Wild, Dennis Park, Chuck King and his good friend and nephew, David Phillips. Many thanks to Dr. C.M. Workman and the nurse practitioners and staff at the Patterson Medical Clinic, Dr. P. Cho and the staff at the Assiboine Clinic, Dr. R. Bansal and the staff at the Family Medical Clinic, Dr. P. Czaykowski and Denise Klassen, Nurse Practitioner at Cancer Care Manitoba and to the many doctors, nurses and staff at the Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora as well as several hospitals in Winnipeg. The only thing harder than watching him suffer was letting him go.
