Brian Law Croston

Brian Law Croston March 21, 1948--- May 17, 2019 Brian passed away peacefully after a long battle with Frontotemporal dementia and Blood cancer. We are deeply saddened by his passing at such a young age, 71, but we know he is at rest now in the arms of the Lord, free at last. Brian was raised in Tuxedo, (Winnipeg), Manitoba. Parents, Donald and Helen Croston, both passed away early in his life, before Brian and Sheila married in 1971 so then Brian came to BC with Sheila . Brian and Sheila received the tremendous gift of four sons, all born within 5 years, and subsequently raised the family in West Vancouver. Brian just thrived on all the adventures, joys, challenges that one can imagine raising four active boys. Busy but fun years. He was very proud of his son’s accomplishments as they found their way in life. It was in mid life that Brian left the corporate world in business to join the Ambulance service (EHS) as a paramedic on the Sea to Sky highway He embraced this challenge with great joy and satisfaction everyday of his 31 years of service until his retirement in 2016. He loved sitting in the chair (pipe in hand) overlooking Howe Sound at the Lions Bay station waiting for the next call of duty. Duty often included delivering babies as well as waltzing with the little old ladies onto stretchers. He was particularly good at the complex MVA’s on the Sea to Sky highway and assisting the search and rescue teams in Lions Bay. He volunteered in his early years with the Coast Guard (formally known as Lifeboat society) in Howe Sound. This volunteer organization gave him the skills that the unit chief Roslyn McPhee recognized as a skill they needed in Lions bay, so he never looked back. Brian always looked on his job as a gift from God, a mission to serve others. Brian’s interests were numerous like car racing, motorcyles, sailing, boating, scuba diving, underwater photography, skiing, camping, touring with the Westfalia Van, travelling, construction at cabin on Ruxton Island or at home in Caulfield and Lions Bay and generally keeping Sheila, his wife content which he did admirably. Brian was a loyal, honest, faithful, principled man who was so very kind to everyone throughout his life. As a father he has gifted his sons with a legacy of these characteristics that he modeled well. His faith in God gave him strength to endure all the twists and turns of life that came his way. His quiet unflappable presence put everyone to rest and gained the trust of all. He is leaving behind his wife Sheila (Schwartz), of 47 years of marriage and all four sons and their families. All his grandchildren were precious to him.and brought him great joy. Son-Colin (Marie Claire), daughters-Katie, Emma, and Jessie from Manahttan Beach California. Son-Jonathan (Natasha) and son Nathan and daughter Hailey from Nelson B.C, Son-Rob (Cindy) and daughter Emma from Coquitlam BC Son-James and daughters Oceanna and Marina from Montreal, Quebec. Brian, being an only child valued the Schwartz family, with 6 siblings. Dave and Faye Schwartz,( daughter Paula) Ron and Debbie (Sons Jacob, Dustin, daughters Candice and Sarah, Dan and Patricia (daughter Kate, son Corey, Rick and Paula (daughter Lise) Lesley and Linton Beavis (sons Mitchell and Jackson). Many many dear and wonderful friends have added joy to Brian and Sheila’s lives, old life long friends, as well as new found friends, all have brought comfort to them. Bless you ALL for your love and support especially through the last few years. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten in all our hearts. Memorial service will be held June 1, 2019 at 1300. Henderson’s funeral chapel, Langley, BC Interment will be at Capilano cemetery, June 2,a private time for family .
