Obituary of Philip Warden Ryan
Philip passed away peacefully a short time after suffering a stroke. He is survived by his devoted wife of eighteen years, Eleanor Ryan. He is predeceased by his eldest son Peter (JoAnne), and his first wife, Ruth. Philip will be mourned by his children, Shannon (Kenneth), Kathy (Eric), Shivaun, and Mark. His seven grandchildren; Jennifer, Robert, Michael, Kevin, Chris, Heather, and Matt and four great-grandchildren will treasure his memory. He will be sadly missed by his step-children, Robert Connolly and family, Christopher Celli, and Ian Celli. Philip served for ten years with the R.C.A.F. in Communications, then with Vancouver Wireless Station in Ladner. His career continued as an Immigration office manager at the Canada/U.S. Border crossing. Following his retirement, Phil worked as an eager volunteer for more than thirty years. He was a founding member of the Langley Seniors Center, and taught woodworking at Douglas Elementary School, along with his good buddies Robert Purcell and Gordon Bens. He assisted his wife, Eleanor, with the production of plays entered in the B.C. Senior Games each year. Philip loved gardening and being outdoors on a sunny day. He lived a long and happy life, and was one of those rare people that was able to live in the present and not worry about the future or past. He lived his last two years at the Langley Lodge, and the family would like to express our sincere appreciation for the excellent care that the staff provided. We cannot thank you enough for treating Phil with love and compassion and understanding. One of our favorite pastimes with Phil at the Langley Lodge was rolling him through their beautiful gardens. We admired all of the flowers for hours on end. As such, in lieu of flowers, we encourage anyone who would like to remember Phil to simply plant a perennial, or scatter some seeds and enjoy the wildflowers as they bloom. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Phil's life was a happy productive one - well deserving of celebration
