Marilyn Ruth Bowes

1932 - 2019 Marilyn Ruth Bowes, of Leduc, Alberta passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on May 20, 2019, and is lovingly remembered by her three children, Brad, Brenda and Lisa. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard, in 2018, and two sisters, Norma Brand and Margaret Bradley, as well as her parents, Orvil and Ada Quick. Marilyn will be sadly missed by her relatives David Bradley, Margaret Bowes, Anne and Clare Middleton, Eleanor and Grant Bracewell and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was born in Dresden, Ontario in 1932 and she met Howard when he moved to Ontario to begin his career in the newspaper business. Following their marriage in 1953, they made their home in Grande Prairie, Alberta. In 1965, Howard and Marilyn moved to Leduc, Alberta, and launched their own publishing company, Lynard Publishers Ltd., starting with the Leduc Representative weekly newspaper. Their business grew over the years to include newspapers in several communities throughout Alberta. Marilyn was involved in her church, and various community initiatives over the years. She was always willing to help out her children with their activities, whether it was music, hockey or horses. After Marilyn and Howard sold their business, they spent winter months in California and Hawaii, enjoying their retirement years. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at St. David’s United Church, 4614 - 48 Street, Leduc, Alberta, beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn’s memory to the Leduc Community Hospital Foundation, the Edmonton Humane Society, or the charity of one’s choice.
