Tom Tierney

Tom Tierney, born September 22, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York to Thomas Norton and Eleanor Simpson [Page] Tierney Thompson, passed away on September 25, 2014, surrounded by his family, in Gilbert, Arizona at the age of 71. Tom graduated from Levittown Memorial High School in 1961. After graduation, Tom worked for a neon sign company prior to joining the Air Force in 1962. After discharge, he worked for Pan Am World Airways from 1967 until 1971 while he was attending college at Queensborough Community College. In 1973 he joined the FDNY and retired from there as Lieutenant in 1993 to relocate to Gilbert, AZ. Tom and his wife Patty were married in 1978 and have spent 35 wonderful years together. Tom was a generous man who was active in his church and involved in mission work in Peru. He was an Eagle Scout, an entrepreneur, and a land developer and built custom homes. He was involved with Di-Matrix who built parts for the Humvees during the Iraq war. Tom owned and operated a number of bars and restaurants on Long Island and was also a distributor of Noble Race Cars. Tom was a partner of Links Golf Course in Queen Creek, he received his pilot’s license after Patty had purchased flying lessons for him as a gift and at the age of 65, Tom decided to take up paddle boarding. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Patty; 3 children Seth (Maureen) Tierney, Kristen Tierney and Heather (Gino Kozeli) Tierney; two grandchildren Ryan and Erin as well as four siblings, Timmy, Billy, Susan and Patti. A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, with a funeral on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 10:00 am at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa AZ 85206.
