Obituary of Audrey Ann Lent
Audrey Ann Lent, April 21, 1933-September 28, 2019 Married to Bill for 67 years, he was the love of Audrey’s life. She and Bill raised four wonderful children in Shoreham, NY where they loved swimming at the community beach on the Long Island Sound, camping and simply enjoying life. Her family was the heart and soul of her life: Tim (Sandi), Sharon Geib (John), Susan Matura (Jerry) and their youngest, Michelle Lent. She was the adored grandmother of six beautiful grandchildren, and each knew they were cherished by their Nanny and held a special place in her heart: Jennifer Lent Stark (Mike), Tara Lent Rodriquez (Will), Amy Geib Mucaria (Joe), Matthew Geib, Michael Matura and Ashley Matura. Audrey was blessed with four great grandchildren: Justin, Anthony, Skylar, and Sal. Always ready with a hug and a kiss from Nanny, she made them all feel like the most important people in the world. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Hicksville, NY she was the daughter of John and Julie Olsen and big sister to Joan Olsen Forrester and Sandi Olsen Trenka. Audrey was a classic beauty, inside and out. It was in grade school that she met her one-and-only, Billy. They married just before he shipped out to Korea with the First Marines. An independent and accomplished woman, Audrey worked for Grumman in her 20’s and retired from Shoreham Wading River Elementary School. Audrey and Billy lived and loved their life in Shoridge Hills. They spent countless days at the beach with neighbors, friends and family. With Bill’s video camera always on the ready and with a big bowl of Audrey’s potato salad and egg salad sandwiches in wax paper, they always looked forward to a gathering. Whether camping at Hither Hills, day trips to Cupsogue or on a jaunt to Europe with their children, Audrey and Billy were the best part of the trip. Although the potato salad recipe is a coveted family secret, you can still enjoy it at the home of one of her children, who are now bearers of the legacy. Each one is lucky to carry a unique and cherished trait from their mom, and a few have the Audrey “worry gene”. She cared…and was always looking out for…everyone she loved. She and Bill loved to travel, and especially loved cruising where they shared many incredible adventures. Audrey would know most of the crew and its guests before the end of the trip. With the most beautiful smile, and an infectious laugh she drew people to her everywhere she went and wanted to know everything about them. She made lasting friends and treasured each and every one. Always surrounded by her beloved family and dear friends, Audrey truly loved every moment of her life.
