Obituary of Fedir Hajovy
Fedir Hajovy, 89, of Becker, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 25, 2019. Fedir was born March 9th, 1930 in Kiev, Ukraine during a turbulent time leading into Stalin’s artificial famine in 1933. His family was fortunate to survive this tragic period and eventually fled the Ukraine as the Bolsheviks threatened their people during World War ll. Escaping by horse and cart and with very little possessions they travelled to Italy, Austria, Germany, England and eventually settled in Argentina. It was there that Fedir met and married his beautiful lifetime soulmate, Maria, in 1954. They had a daughter, Halyna during their early life in Argentina and immigrated to the United States in 1957. Fedir became a Machinist and Tool & Die Maker and continued to work for Thermo King for 30 years and holds 2 patents. Three more sons were born, Theodore, Paul & Ivan. Fedir was very active in the Ukrainian Community including leadership in ODUM and Ukrainian politics. The family purchased a farm property on 100 acres in Wisconsin in 1966 where endless memories were made for family, friends and the Ukrainian community. He loved nature and the outdoors and enjoyed deer & duck hunting, tending to his beehives and making honey and building the best campfires for his grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed fishing in his little 3-seater aluminum boat and had stories for the big fish he caught in each of the corners of every lake he visited. He retired in 1990 from Thermo King. After retirement, Fedir and Maria spent the winters in Florida and would come back to their Wisconsin farm in the late Spring which he so dearly loved. Sadly, his son, Theodore (2003) and daughter, Halyna (2012) passed away while he was living. He adored his 5 Grandsons, Nicholas & Alex, Lukas, Mikael & Max and spent a great deal of time with them on the Florida beaches and the Wisconsin farm. They all loved their “Didyc” and learned so much about life from their wonderful Grandfather. On May 24th, Fedir and Maria passed the mark of being married for 66 years. Fedir peacefully passed away the following day surrounded by his family. He was greatly loved and will be missed immensely. Vichnaya Pamyat! Preceded in death by his son, Theodore; daughter, Halyna; and brother, Michael. Fedir will be deeply missed by his wife of 66 years, Maria; sons, Paul (Sonia) and Ivan (Missy); grandchildren, Melissa, Nicholas, Alexander, Lukas, Mikael, and Max; sister, Olga (George) Tatarko; other family and friends. Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 8 at 12pm with visitation one hour prior at Sunset Funeral Chapel, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd NE, Mpls. Private inurnment at Sunset Cemetery at a later date.
