Barbara Joy Harkins

Barbara Joy Adams Harkins, age 80, of Jemison, Alabama, passed away on August 26, 2019 at home with her family. She was one of four children born to Emma and Louis Adams of Lake Worth, Texas. Turning down a college scholarship, she married Lewey Joe Harkins on November 15, 1957 and moved to his hometown of Pea Ridge, Alabama to start their family. After she raised her children, she worked as a rural carrier for the US Postal Service in Helena, Alabama. She was raised Baptist, and was modest, shy and selfless in caring for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewey Joe Harkins. Left to treasure her memory are her daughters, Debra Daniel (Lee) of Montevallo and Rebecca McCarty (Michael) of Jemison; son, Kevin Harkins (Lisa) of Helena; grandchildren, Tiffany Greene (Shawne), Kristen Nguyen (Vien), Laura Baker (Dakota), Heather Miller (Keith), and Miranda Harkins; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Williams (Willie) of Lake Worth, TX and Cecilia Bodine (Gayle) of Perrin, TX; brother, Jimmy Adams (Margie) of Nocona, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Montevallo City Cemetery.
