Obituary of Antoinette "Toni" Arnould Foglesong
ANTOINETTE “TONI” FOGLESONG Wife… Mother… Grandmother… Music and Community Leader Antoinette “Toni” Foglesong (nee Arnould), 92, a wife, mother, choir and community leader passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019. Toni was the wife of the late Jim Foglesong and is survived by her children, Cindi (and Dave), Leslie (and Karen), Jimi (and Kay), Rusty (and Ruby). Toni is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Jeremy (and Heather), Tracy, Erica (and Keith), Amy, Taylor (and Pedro), Shawn (and Kyndel), James (and Mercedes), Shelby (and Kevin), William, and Kira; 11 great grandchildren, Austin, Christian, Peyton, Emma, Ava, Jay, Allie, Stellan, Garin, Ian, and Julian; and her sister-in-law Susan Shaw (and Robert) of Monroe, NC. Toni was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Hilda (Carlson) Arnould Knubel and Dr. Maurice Arnould. Toni had a long and distinguished career in vocal music. She was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. It was there Toni met Jim Foglesong, her husband of 62 years. Toni went on to teach music and performed and toured with Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians, a popular band and choral group in the 1950s. After settling in New Jersey to raise a family, Toni became the Choir Director at Westwood Methodist Church. In 1971, the family moved to Nashville where Toni taught vocal music and began her long tenure as a Minister of Music at Trinity Presbyterian and then Second Presbyterian Church. In 2006, at the age of 80, Toni retired but she left behind a culture of excellence in music. A born leader and natural volunteer, Toni spent tireless hours raising money for the Nashville Symphony and was ultimately elected to be the president of the Nashville Symphony Guild (1978 to 1980). For 32 years, Toni was a member of the Nashville Herb Society and was recruited to be the first garden chair at The Herb Study Garden at Cheekwood. In 2015, Toni was honored nationally by the Herb Society of America for her years of work as a leader and educator. Toni was active in many other organizations volunteering and fundraising for Nashville Public Television, the Nashville Humane Society, and the American Cancer Society and still found the time energy to proudly stand beside her husband and partner for his many honors including his induction into the County Music Hall of Fame in 2004. Toni will be remembered for her kindness, graciousness and as a true force of nature who believed the “heart is a like a hotel – there’s always room for one more” - one more place setting at the table; one more stray animal that needs a home; or one more guest is always welcome. She will be dearly missed by friends and family alike. The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs of Brookdale Green Hills Cumberland, Brookdale Goodlettsville Memory Care, and Alive Hospice for all the love and care provided Toni. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the W.O. Smith Music School, 1125 8th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203 (www.wosmith.org) –a nonprofit educational institution created for the purpose of making quality music instruction available to talented, interested, deserving children from low income families. Friends are cordially invited to a service celebrating Toni’s life at Vine Street Christian Church, 4101 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN on the 20th of June, 2019 at 11AM.
