Obituary of Julia Fusako Gima
Julia Fusako Gima passed away on September 29, 2019 at the age of 94. She was born on July 3, 1925 in Hilo, Hawaii to Genichi Okubo and Kotoe Aoki. She was the youngest of five children. Her siblings were Andy, Johnny, Sarah and Esther. Julia married Gilbert Gima in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together they had three daughters and eventually moved from Hawaii to Los Angeles, California in 1962. Julia was a dedicated mother and grandmother her whole life. She raised three daughters selflessly and in time, she was blessed with five granddaughters. She then acquired the name “Goggie” by her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She took pride in helping raise them like her own. Eventually, she was blessed with four great grandsons and four great granddaughters and loved them with all her heart. Her children and grandchildren were obviously the most important thing in her life. Although, mostly a stay at home mother, she worked at The Yoshimoto Store in Hawaii, Security Pacific Bank in Los Angeles and Parsons Construction Company in Pasadena. She retired from Parsons Construction in 1987 at the age of 62. Most people will agree that Julia was a simple, self-less, honest and hard-working woman. She couldn’t just sit around knowing there was laundry to do, a meal to be made or floor to be swept. She will be truly missed, but we are happy that she is in God’s presence where she is experiencing peace and joy. She is survived by her daughters: Phyllis Ames, Gwen Garcia, Susan Gima; her son-in-law Steve Ames; grandchildren: Kimberly Hoevel, Stephani Velador, Staci Pena, Akemi Dalvi, Masayo Kondo, Steven Hoevel, Mark Velador, Ashay Dalvi; great-grandchildren: Alexis Hoevel, Alyssa Pena, Cole Hoevel, Tyler Velador, Gianna Pena, Aiden Dalvi, Andrew Dalvi, and Faith Velador; and her sister: Esther Gima.
