Obituary of Michael Meyers
On May 15th, 2019, Mike Meyers, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 71. Mike was born Michael Norman Haver on April 20th, 1948 in Schenectady, NY to Harold Haver and Pauline (Warner) Meyers. He was later adopted by his mother's second husband, Stanley Meyers, and changed his name to Michael Meyers. He attended school in both Oxford and Norwich, NY. At 18, Mike joined the U.S. Army. He was deployed to Vietnam from 1966-1967 where he served as a Paratrooper with Company B-4/503RD-INF 173rd Airborne Brigade. He did two more tours in Vietnam from 1969-1971 with MACV Team 162 Vietnamese Airborne Advisory Detachment. In 1971, his son Kevin, was born from his first marriage. He was then stationed in Germany with the 509th Airborne, where several years later he met Rosemarie Carle, who became his second wife in 1977. Back in the U.S. Mike became a deputy for the Chenango County Sheriff’s Dept. and worked for the Village of Greene Police Dept. He was known to fellow deputies by his nickname Ziggy. In 1989 he and wife Rose had daughter Sabrina. He retired from CCSD after 17 years of duty. Mike had a variety of interests and enjoyed anything relating to history, strategy and being outdoors. He loved fishing, searching for Native American artifacts, woodworking, reading, puzzles, chess, watching history programs and Ancient Aliens. He was always happy as long as he had a cup of coffee. July 4th was his favorite day because he enjoyed a good party with family and friends. He was also a practical joker with a great sense of humor. He was a lifetime member of 173rd Airborne Sky Soldiers Association, the VFW and the DAV. Anyone who met Mike, remembered him for his kindness, veracity, and humanity. Mike is predeceased by his parents Pauline "Polly" and Stanley Meyers, his in-laws Irmgard and Paul Carle of Germany, his sisters: Floren Tracy Meyers, Dawn Kim Meyers, and Tami Ann Meyers. Mike is survived by his wife Rosemarie (Carle) Meyers, daughter Sabrina (Meyers) Dier, son Kevin Meyers and his wife Shawnee, grandchildren: Ashley Meyers, Joshua Meyers and his wife Mackenna, and Tasha Furman, his brother Peter Meyers, his nephews Jeffrey and Jared Meyers, sister-in-law Gerlinde Carle-Iser, her husband Siegfried Iser and their daughter Sarah Iser of Germany, his cousin Rick Carey, and his best friend James "Booboo" Manwarren. Per his wishes, there will not be any formal services. A private family funeral will take place at Arlington Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. A private celebration of life for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
