Gracie Fern Houston
Gracie Fern Houston was born Gracie Fern Teague in Newport, Texas January 11, 1912 to W.J. and Lula Teague. She passed away in Richmond, Texas (a Houston suburb) February 12, 2013 at the age of 101. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.L. Houston and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lawson and Kay Cook.
Gracie Fern spent her early life in Newport and graduated from Texas Tech with a teaching certificate. Afterwards she taught school in Post and Stanton where she met and married her husband. They moved to Odessa in 1944, and she taught 1st grade at Cameron Elementary for many years. She was also a very active member of First Baptist Church where she taught a women's Sunday School class for a number of years. She lived in Odessa until 2001 when she moved to Houston to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
She was an excellent seamstress and greatly enjoyed sewing. After she retired, she learned to paint and spent many hours painting with oils and watercolors.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Graveside service will be 11:00 am Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton, TX.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
