Geraldine E. Sousa

Geraldine “Gerry” Sousa, 88, of Oneonta, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the New York State Veteran’s Home in Oxford. She was born on January 7, 1931 in Unadilla, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Rogers) Eckler. Gerry is survived by her husband of 69 years, Frederick; her daughter, Pamela (James); and her son Michael (Mary); 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Frederick Jr. and daughter Debra Elwood and her husband Thomas. Gerry was a housewife and mother. She was a past member of The United Methodist Church and The Loyal Order of The Moose in Oneonta. She and her husband enjoyed vacationing at their cabin on Black Lake in Hammond, NY, where good times were spent with family and friends. She took great pride in her family and friends and will sadly be missed by all. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Lester R Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta. Calling hours will be from 10 am to 12 pm, with a service following at noon with Rev. Mel Farmer officiating. Burial will take place in Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.
