Michael de Leon

Our beloved most precious Michael joined his Creator on September 13, 2019. In two months, on November 11, 2019, he would have celebrated his 46th birthday.

A joyful sunbeam in our lives, Michael loved and cared for us and his family, without measure. He was a devoted husband, partner, and best friend to me, Emily, his wife of 21 years. A warm and affectionate father to us, his children, he anticipated and provided for our needs, gave us guidance in his wise, gentle way. He endeavored to make our world bigger and richer with knowledge and experiences.

Throughout his life, Michael nurtured a profound aspiration to follow a line of connection between him and God. This aspiration was expressed through an undeniable quality of purity in him. It came through as sincerity in his words and actions, generosity towards others, and a kindly attitude to everyone he met. He was always wanting to give and to make things good for other people.

We, Emily, his wife, and his children, Liane, Lyra and JM, and the rest of our family, thank you for comforting us in our fathomless grief.

Michael’s remains are cremated. Funeral is on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home and Chapel located at 1411 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa, ON K1V 1A6. Funeral rites begin with a viewing at 12 pm, followed by a service at 2 pm. Friends and family are welcome to share memories during the reception right after the service.

I am Michael sister-in-law. I had a chance to stay with the family for almost a year way back 2008. During that year, I was asked to baby-sit my niece Cheska, their second born child. Mike has a big heart for all of his and Emily's family. He only had love and affection for his kids especially with his loving wife. The couple chose to migrate in Canada to give the kids a better future. That is why in 2015, during their vacation in Philippines, the family spent every moment with each others' family. We are happy that he provided his family well though far from their birth country. Michael is considered the coolest uncle. Thoughtful and generous, there is no dull moment whenever Mike is with us. Thank you Mikes for all the memories. In behalf of Emily's family, your love will never be forgotten. You will stay forever in our hearts.

Mike will always be a brother & close friend to me. We spent 6 years in seminary college together from 1990 to 96. We professed together briefly as Salesians of Don Bosco, but left the same time too. He is one of my favorite classmates always admiring his talents in sports & music. But what I miss most is his infectious cheerfulness. He's one of the really good ones who could have been a great priest. Instead he became an amazing person to family & friends.

We never know when our time is up, but it came too soon for Michael.

It felt so unreal when we heard the news, so sudden this brought us back in time when both of you almost lost your lives not too long ago. Despite being both badly hurt, Michael even asked those at the scene to come to your aid first before him. This second chance in life, Michael did everything he can so you, your family, can live better abroad. And now this. Yet, it is still up to us to make sure his hope, his yearnings for you, to come true.

You can count on us to help you out on this.

Michael or Miguel as I fondly call him has been a dear friend and confidante to me. We shared lots of memories in TDK. We were lunch buddies and very close friends. He was such a comic relief to our serious days in Training. His presence always lit the whole room. He was our happy pill.

Even if we have not spoken for a while since he moved half way around the globe, I know that he has lived a full 2nd life with Emily and his beautiful kids.

Heaven has gained another angel named Michael and I am pretty sure that he will spread happiness there, too.

Rest in peace Mike. Prayers and condolences to the family

On November 11, 1973, Reynaldo De Leon and Avelina De Leon gave birth to their youngest son, Michael John Flores De Leon in Tarlac, Philippines. His older siblings are Reginald and Geraldine. Michael attended two schools: from preparatory to grade 3 at the Holy Spirit, and his alma mater Don Bosco where he attended from grade 4 to university graduate.

Over the years, he worked at TDK in the Philippines, and he worked for SCI and OMS here in Ottawa, before he settled at Epocal (Siemens Healthineers). Michael was known as a great soccer player by many friends and families, but he also played basketball well. He was very passionate with sports and cars. Michael got married to Emily, and he was survived by their 3 kids: Liane (Chizkee), Lyra (Cheska), and Juan Miguel (JM). Their whole family immigrated to Canada on May 12, 2010. With that being said, most of his families are in the Philippines.
