John George Olech

OLECH, John George Passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Iris for 61 years, loving father of Alex (Anne), Suzanne (Pat), Steve (Kaarina) and Johanne (Tobin). He will be missed by his 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. John was born in 1926 and raised on the family farm in Saskatchewan. He moved to Toronto where he and Iris raised their family. John was an accomplished welder who worked in a variety of manufacturing industries in the Toronto area. He completed his career as a welding inspector with the Canadian Welding Bureau. He loved his cottage on Lake Catchacoma and was known locally by his CB handle as “The Dancer”. Upon retirement, he began his second career with Iris as a world traveler. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St.Peter-in-chains (411 Reid Street, Peterborough). Interment will be at a later date. The family wish to acknowledge the excellent Palliative care team at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre who cared for John both in the hospital and at home. Dr. Mallory, Dr. Webster, the nurses and the Personal support workers provided exceptional, compassionate care. Thank you all so much.
