Obituary of John Ryrie 'Stoney' Stone
STONE, John Ryrie ‘Stoney’ – Stoney passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 9, 2018 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care in his 72nd year. Beloved husband of 48 years to Allison Morson (nee Smith). Loving Dad of Rebecca Stone (Chris Buddle) and Jocelyne Stone (Kevin MacDonald). Cherished ‘Stoney’ to grandkids Evan, Emma, Tyler, Peter and Adam. Dear brother of Deborah Stone. Fondly remembered by his favourite furry friend, Ryrie the Rescue Dog. Born in Toronto in 1946 Stoney spent his early years playing hockey for the Leaside Lions, camping, camp-counselling, and making many life-long friendships at Kilcoo Camp, where in 1967 he met the love of his life, Allison. After graduating with an English degree from Waterloo-Lutheran University, he married Allison and embarked on a long and successful career in Sales and Marketing for Proctor & Gamble, Ethicon, Surgikos, Johnson & Johnson, SSI, Healthpoint Canada, and Smith & Nephew, living most of his life in the Peterborough area. Stoney will be fondly remembered by a vast network of family and friends for his quick wit and enthusiastic love of life. He wore many hats in his too-short life including dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, mentor, sailor, martini-connoisseur, gardener, wood-chopper, cyclist, dog-walker, trailcutter, x-country skier, enthusiastic tobogganer, pontificator, debater, voracious reader, sommelier, chief barbequer, and avid Stony Lake cottager. Stoney spent the final year of his life battling cancer. To the very end, he lived his life thoughtfully, bravely, without regret, and as an inspiration to many. He will be forever loved and always missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception at COMSTOCK-KAYE LIFE CELEBRATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough, Ontario, 705-745-4683.
