Imogene Jackson

January 22, 1916May 29, 2019
Imogene Jackson (January 22 1916 – May 29, 2019) Imogene was born in the Woodland Community near Pontotoc, Mississippi where she grew up on a small farm in a close knit, frugal family with two sisters and many cousins for playmates. She was particularly fond of attending Church and listening to sermons and advice from Brother Rogers, the Church pastor who was a frequent guest in the family home. After graduating from Pontotoc High School in 1933 she continued her education at Chickasaw College and then received her BA from Lambuth College in 1937 and her MA from the University of Mississippi in 1941 after teaching school for a number of years. Imogene taught school at the elementary, high school and Jr. College levels in Mississippi and Florida before retiring from Itawamba Jr. College in 1977 to return to the family farm to care for ageing parents. In 1993, a few years after the death of her parents, she sold the farm and moved to Clinton, MS to be with her beloved sister Frances. In 2003 they moved to Huntsville Alabama to be near other family members. Imogene wants you to know that she has long found peace and joy through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and now takes great pleasure in going home to be with the Lord. She was looking forward to seeing many good relatives including her parents Lee and Maud Pickering Jackson, her sisters Frances Jackson McGuffee and Nellie Jackson Lancaster, her nephew Charles Lancaster and many friends who are already with the Lord as well as many who will come later. Imogene is survived by her nephew Jim Lancaster and his wife Cindy, her nephew Harold Lancaster and his wife Candy, her niece Linda McGuffee, three great nieces and two great nephews. The funeral service will be on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Woodland Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Varnon officiating; burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
