Obituary of Joseph Cerniglia
Joseph Cerniglia passed away on June 3, 2019 at the age of 94. Joseph was born on November 18, 1924 in Madison, WI to parents Antonino and Josephine Fabbiano Cerniglia. He moved to California with his family when he was 11. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother George, son David, and 3 wives; Barbara (1), Shirley (2), and Ruth (3). Survived by children Karen Veliquette (Ted), Joseph Jr. (Colleen), Toni Cerniglia. Steve Cerniglia, and Jerry Burwell. Grandchildren Daren Veliquette (Kim), Stephanie Fabela (Don), Kimi Cerniglia (Antonio), Kristen Cerniglia, David Cerniglia Jr., David Long, Cindy Danhoff (Richard), Jimmy Burwell, Shannon Burwell, Sean Burwell, Tina Cerniglia, and Jeffery Cerniglia. Great- grandchildren Anthony Reay, Allison Veliquette, Julia “Juju” Veliquette, David Cerniglia III, Nicholas Chau, Lilli Chau, and Madison Chau. He graduated from Sacramento High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He flew over Europe during the war sitting in the nose of the bombers. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, his garden, golfing, and in later years gambling. He hated having to resort to the Indian Casinos when he could no longer go over the hill to Reno/Tahoe. He enjoyed family BBQ’s and making our Sicilian goodies during the holidays. He was a Lifetime Member of the Dante Club, having served as President, Recording Secretary, and Board member during his time there. He participated in as many of Dante Club activities through the years. He was also a member of Piemonte Reale, and S.I.R.S. He worked at the CA State Printing Office as a Printer for 35 years until his retirement. Private internment at the Veteran’s National Cemetery in Dixon.
