OBITUARY
Lucio Elizondo
October 13, 1933 – July 19, 2019
IN THE CARE OF
Sunset Northwest Funeral Home
Lucio Elizondo went to be with his beloved wife Vangie, on July 19, 2019. She preceded him in death; as did his father, Pablo Elizondo; mother, Petra Rodriguez Elizondo; sister, Hope; and twin brother Serapio. He is survived by son, J.D. Elizondo and wife Barbara Lujan; daughter, Lucinda and husband Gordon Anderson; and grandsons Ross Elizondo Anderson and Ian Elizondo Anderson.
He was born in La Vernia, Texas on October 13th, 1933. He was well known for his sense of humor and was well liked by neighbors and coworkers. His humor was a testament to his resilience in the face of a childhood marked by the death of many close family members.
He graduated from Burbank High School in San Antonio and joined the United States Air Force. After the Air Force, he used his training to begin a career in civil service at Kelly Air Force Base. There he met his future wife Vangie when she asked him to join the Kelly bowling league. The two were accomplished bowlers and were frequently mentioned in the newspapers with tales of their success in different tournaments. Family vacations centered around tournaments, and trophies were proudly displayed in the family room. After his career with Kelly, the family moved to Virginia were Lucio worked at the Pentagon. Along the way he continued to serve in the National Guard and Reserves, achieving the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
Lucio enjoyed gently teasing family and friends, and often recounting humorous and embarrassing family tales. Although our hearts are filled with sorrow, we are comforted in the memories of joyous times spent together, laughing now through our tears.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 5pm-8pm. Service will continue on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 with an 11am Celebration of his life. Graveside service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2pm in Shelter 1. For online tributes and shared memories please visit the online guest book.
