Obituary of Eldon Leroy Moore
Eldon Leroy Moore, 88, died October 3, 2019. Eldon born in Cloud County, Kansas, the son of Leuticia Jane (Swaggarty) “Teed” and Roy E. Moore and grew up in Elkhart. Eldon was the youngest of six siblings, three brothers Vern, Ervin and Millard and two sisters Ella and Letha. Eldon graduated Elkhart High School in 1949 and Kansas State in 1954 with a BS degree in phycology. After Kansas State he entered the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. After meeting the love of his life, Dorothy E. Horne “Dot” in London, they were married January 10, 1956. Eldon left the Air Force in 1959 to work as a radar controller for the FAA, then reentering the Air Force in 1961. While stationed in Houston, Texas, he left the Air Force after a total of fifteen and one half years in 1969 at the rank of Captain. After leaving the Air Force he worked for Houston EDP as a computer Operator, Pasadena Employment Service as a Counselor and opened a Doughnut Shop called Dee’s Donuts. After a very successful year with the Doughnut Shop, he had to sell the business for health reasons. Eldon worked as a Circulation Manager for the Pasadena News Citizen News Paper until accepting a position with Spea’s Vinegar as a Salesman. While with Spea’s he accepted a position in Southern California, moving the family to Fullerton, California and finally purchasing a home in Valinda. Through numerous sales of the company, he remained with them until he retired in 1995. After his retirement Eldon spent his time with Dorothy caring for feral cats, feeding them, trapping them to have them spayed or neutered and to have medical issues treated and adopting strays and bringing them home two at a time. Once it became too much to travel to the cats, they trapped them all and found a home for feral cats for them to live. Eldon and Dot have taken care of five feral cats around their home and two resident cats, Dudley and Minnie, since. Eldon also spent his time caring for family and the home. In his spare time, he cheered on his Kansan State Wildcats and the local professional teams. Eldon was a loving Husband and Father and a friend to animals and people alike. The last few years as his health began failing, he faced his illnesses stoically, never complaining and maintaining his great sense of humor to the end. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings and nephew E. C. “Doc” Moore. He is survived by his wife Dorothy E. Moore and son Gary M. Moore. Services are to be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, October 21, 2019 at Fairhaven Memorial Park, Waverly Chapel at 1702 Fairhaven Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92705, with a graveside service to follow.
