Obituary of Manford Barnett
It is with sad hearts our family announces the passing of Manford Barnett on April 8th, 2019. Manford was born on April 24th, 1932 in Kennedy, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of three children. Manford completed his schooling at Langbank, Saskatchewan. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts and his Bachelor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan. Manford had a long and rewarding teaching career of 38 years. He began teaching in a one room country school in Montgomery. His career took him to Kennedy, Chamberlain, Oxbow, Arcola, Estevan, Saskatoon and Clavet. Manford married Louise (Malcolm) on August 16th, 1962 and had four daughters born: Kathleen - Arcola, Karen – Estevan, Kim and Kelly – Saskatoon. The family moved to Saskatoon in 1969 where Manford taught at Aden Bowman Collegiate. His last 18 years of teaching were at Clavet Composite High School where he was a teacher, coach and administrator. Manford was a quiet, honest, and dedicated father and husband. As a teacher, learning was core to his purpose in life and higher education was a dream for “his girls”. His proudest moments were seeing all four daughters convocated from the University of Saskatchewan. Over the years there were fun camping and canoeing trips. Manford loved dogs and enjoyed their company from a very young age until his 80’s. He was proud of his ability to build, renovate and maintain the home, yard and vehicles, and he enjoyed restoring family antique furniture. After retirement from teaching, he enjoyed time at the Saskatoon Bridge Club and travelling across Canada, U.S.A. and Europe. Manford Barnett will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 56 years Louise Barnett (nee Malcolm), and family Kathleen Barnett and son Justin (Marcie) Dupuis and children Tristan and Bohdi, Karen (Rod) Forsythe and family Alexandra and Mackenzie, Kim (Bruce) Hergott and family Rachel (Kyle McEachern) and Tyson, Kelly (Tim) Guss and family Lily and Abigail, Chantelle and Josée (Cam Bremner); brother-in-law David Malcolm and numerous nieces and nephews and their families in Canada and the U.S.A. Manford was predeceased by parents Edward and Carrie Barnett (nee Berglund), brother Lawrence (Maizellle) Barnett, sister Eunice (John) Collins; parents-in-law: Henry and Mary (Guilloux) Malcolm, sisters-in-law: Ida Malcolm and Helen (Nychuk) Malcolm. Manford’s wish for cremation without services will be honoured. A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If you wish to donate in his memory, please send a cheque to the Coronary Artery Rehabilitation Group Inc. at 2020 College Drive, Saskatoon SK., S7N 2W4 or a charity of your choice. We would also like to express our gratitude for the kindness and care we received from the staff at the Luther Special Care Home.
