Obituary of Cecil Thomas Powell
Cecil Thomas Powell, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Thursday, May 23, 2019, surrounded by his wife and daughters, at his home in Stuarts Draft. Born on June 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Benjamin Carroll and Gracie Ann (Morris) Powell. He served in the US Army until he was medically discharged. He married Loney Marie Morris on November 28, 1957. He retired from State Farm Insurance with over 40 years of service. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Ashby, Ben, and Frank; and two sisters, Sue Marshall and Irene Carver. Along with his loving wife of 61 years, Cecil is survived by three daughters, Donna Powell, Carol Newman, and Pam Graves, and her husband, Jeff, who he loved like a son; three grandchildren, who were the apples of his eyes, Alex Graves, Logan Graves, and Jared Newman; as well as extended family and friends. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 550 Buck Mountain Rd, Earlysville, with Pastor Thurman Collier officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery. Following the graveside service, the family invites extended family and friends to join them at Brooksville Manor, 8800 Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Afton, to celebrate Cecil's life. Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, May 26, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro.
