Frederick Bardal

December 17, 1916 – August 28, 2018 Frederick Bardal passed away on August 28, 2018 in Surrey, B.C. ‘Fred’ lived a long and full 101 plus years. He was born on December 17, 1916 in Winnipeg to Gudrun and Halldor Bardal and was the third youngest of 12 siblings, many of whom gravitated from Manitoba to the West Coast and kept in close touch. Fred worked in the jewelry business until he joined the Air Force during WW II. He excelled at navigating and became an instructor. Fred and his first wife Audrey moved to the West Coast where he and his older brother, Victor, started Trigraphic Engravers in 1949. That business flourished, with the help of a number of the Bardal brothers, for 22 years. Fred later joined Zenith Graphics and was a Vice-President there until his retirement. For many years Fred was a member of the Capilano Golf Club and the Vancouver Gyro Club where he made many lifelong friends. He loved entertaining us all with his funny stories and held his sense of humour to the end. Fred found love a second time when he met Dorothy Paterson on a trip to China. The Bardal and Paterson clans were forever bonded. They had 21 loving years together. Fred was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey, his son Rick, his step-daughter Debbie Metheral and all of his siblings. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, step-children Dave Paterson (Lois), Jamey Paterson (Sharon), PJ Paterson (Glen) and all of their children, including Debbie’s (Gerry Metheral) family. He is also survived by his daughter Judy (Richard Mori) and her family, Rick’s (Moya Kavanagh) family and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend, Jack O’Neill who was so supportive over their many years of friendship. A special note of thanks for the compassionate care he received most recently from the staff at Westminster House Retirement Community in Surrey and previously from Cornerstone Care Society in Langley. Fred always loved a party so his life was celebrated that way, at a party with the immediate families of the Bardals and Patersons. In the last few years when he couldn’t think of what else to say, he would always end with “Cheers to you” and so Cheers to you, Fred! Thanks for being such a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
