Obituary of Inez Nadine Mowat
May 28, 2018, will forever be etched in our minds and hearts as the day we lost Inez, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She left us as she had lived, with beauty, strength and grace, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her soulmate, Richard Mowat, her parents, George and Betty Fox, bother-in-law, Bill Knowles and niece Cara Knowles. Inez is survived by her sister, Leanne Knowles (Jerome), daughter Erin Collis, son Brad Skilling (Kathy), nephew Aaron Knowles (Laura-Lee). She was a devoted grandmother to Lauren Jones (Trevor), Meaghan Sutherland (Korey), Shelby Collis, Bennett and Jacob Skilling. She was great aunt to Molly and Ava Knowles. Inez was born June 16, 1934, in Portland Oregon. She grew up in Vancouver and after graduating from Lord Byng High School went on to achieve her nursing diploma from the Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in September 1955. Upon completion, she spread her wings and ventured off to work in emergency departments in New York, Fort Lauderdale and Los Angeles. She took a bit of a hiatus from nursing for a few years to raise her children but returned, first to Royal Columbian Hospital Emergency, then in 1978 to Vancouver General Hospital OR, specializing in neuro-surgery. It was a job she loved, and she remained there until her retirement in 1994. Inez then became a volunteer at Canuck Place. She loved to travel, Hawaii being a favourite destination, and had many lovely vacations there with family and friends. Inez lived a full life. Her creativity found outlets in gardening, cooking and home décor. She was a fabulous seamstress and flower arranger extraordinaire. Anything she put her mind to she did well. She loved to entertain and had wonderful friends whom she loved tremendously. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, instilling great values and life lessons in her quiet way. The world has been a better place because of her presence. The family wishes to thank Dr. Grace Park, Dr. Jeffrey Beckman, and Dr. Lauren Kimball as well as Mary Ellen, Breanne and devoted staff of 3W Surrey Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and support. At Inez’s request, there will be no service. Instead, she instructed us to have a “party” to celebrate her life. This will be held at a future date. It will be lonely here without you, We will miss you more each day. For life will not be the same for us Since you’ve been called away. We will always remember the way you looked, The way you walked and smiled. All the things you did for us Will be with us all the while. You always did your best, Your heart was true and tender. You lived your life for those you loved, And those you loved will remember. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to one of the following organizations which had a special place in her heart: BC Cancer Society, Canuck Place or BC Children’s Hospital.
