Obituary of John Wesley MacDonald
John Wesley MacDonald August 20, 1934 – June 19, 2019 Born in Toronto Ontario, predeceased by his siblings, Betty, Ruby and Malcolm, he leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Susan, his first wife Irene and their children, Susan (Steve), John (Sonya), Laurel (Bob), Scott (Shannon), grandchildren, Jessica, Cassandra, Nolan, Alexa, Brie, Kayla and Kendra, great grand children, sister and brother in-law, mother in-law, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and the many friends he considered family. He was a hair stylist for all of his life. It was his passion and he was determined to make all women feel beautiful. In Toronto in his younger years, he worked for Glemby International. He left them to open his own shops and one in particular, John & Peter Hair Salon on St. Clair Avenue East which operated very successfully for many years. In 1979, he and Susan decided to move out west, and drove his Cadillac convertible across the country and eventually settled in White Rock by the sea. He partnered to open other shops, and then in later years, returned to work as a Style Director for Glemby International. Retirement did not stop John from styling hair. Up until his 80th birthday he rented a chair and was still passionate about his profession. His Scottish background and his “school of hard knocks” education made him strong and determined, which got him through life, but he was also wonderfully compassionate, kind, and a true gentlemen. He loved and was very proud of his family. He loved his home and spent many an afternoon in his chaise lounge in the garden, staring at the ocean view with a cold beer in his hands and his dog Maud by his side. He was diagnosed with mixed dementia in 2011 and spent the last few years of his life at the Evergreen Baptist Campus of Care home. Even while in the care home he was giving advice to the staff of what to do with their hair, even if they didn’t ask for it. He was immensely loved and will be truly missed. Words cannot express our thanks to the staff of angels at Evergreen that cared for John. We invite you to leave your condolences at Victory Gardens Funeral Home – www.victoryfuneralcentre.ca
