IN THE CARE OF
Victory Memorial Park & Funeral Centre
Richard Alec Palanio passed away peacefully on November 30, 2018 at his home in Surrey surrounded by loved ones with his beloved wife, Heidi, at his side.
Rick was born on March 16, 1961 in Vancouver, BC to Alec and Carol Palanio. Rick grew up in Coquitlam attending Parkland Elementary and Charles Best Secondary schools. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became a long shore-man working on the Vancouver, Squamish and Tsawwassen waterfronts. Rick attended Malaspina College in Nanaimo, completing his heavy-duty mechanic certificate in 1979. As a long shore-man, Rick moved up the ranks becoming a foreman in Squamish before moving to Delta Port in 2002. Rick married the love of his life, Heidi Kuehne, in 1985. The love they shared over their 35-year relationship was simply beautiful. Rick loved riding motorcycles, travelling and camping with Heidi and their many family members and good friends. Rick also loved music – both playing it and experiencing it. He played the drums, guitar and accordion; his favourite bands were AC/DC and Santana. Rick’s motto in life was “live fully now because you never know how long you will be here for”. As a family man, a friend and a long shore-man, he gave everything 150%. He was a man of commitment, loyalty, strength and honour. We will miss his deep laugh, his big bear hugs, his crazy antics and wonderful sense of humour. Thank-you, Rick, for all you have given – you left your mark on all of us and we are better for having known you.
Left to honour Rick’s life and remember his love are his wife, Heidi; their son, Jesse; grandchildren, Alec and Lennan; and many, many other close family and friends.
His ashes will be laid to rest in the Palanio plot at the Victory Memorial Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 14th, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, Surrey, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“There is only one happiness in this life – to love and be loved”
“For he lived free and loved his lifestyle
so ride on Rick and rest in peace
‘til we meet again after a while”
