MARMULAK, Michael
Sydney
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Michael Nicholas Marmulak at the age of 80 on February 28, 2019.
Born in Sydney on November 7, 1938, he was the only son of the late Nicholas and Annie (Zahara) Marmulak.
He started his career at the Sydney Steel Plant and later at Nova Scotia Power Seaboard Power Plant until his retirement.
In his younger years he was an avid hockey player and baseball player. He was inducted into the Cape Breton Sport Hall of Fame (2011) with the 1951 Ward VI Indians Little League Baseball Team. They won the first ever Canadian Little League Championship.
In his spare time, Dad loved to cook and bake. He was well known for his spaghetti and meatballs and his famous pistachio squares.
He loved his family and friends dearly and made a lasting impression on those who were fortunate to know him. Dad was a very soft-spoken father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was loved by all.
He is survived by his loving companion and best friend, Marion Lawson. She was always there for our dad and we are so thankful for her.
Dad is survived by his three daughters, Cindy (Bernie Halloran), Judy (Reg Hutchings), Jennifer; sons, Michael (Lisa), Todd (Tracey), Troy (Amy). His grandchildren knew him affectionately as “Papa”; Jason, Darren, Nicole, Alicia, Cortney, Jenna, Jacek, Nathan, Coady, Noah, Abigail, Madison and Maddex; great-grandchildren, Avery, Bentley, Presley, Nathan and Finlay.
He is survived by his in-laws, Shirley Thurber, Marilyn, Arleigh and Sonny Hillman.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Gloria (Judy) Hillman and sister, Mary (Mamie), Boone; in-laws, Pearl Ross, Eileen MacCharles, Bev Herridge, Dawn Tubrett, Edgar, Ronald and Dougie Hillman.
Dad, you will be forever in our hearts and will be missed more than words can express.
Special thank you to Dr. John Archibald and his receptionist Debbie for all that you have done for Dad over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, with a funeral service at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 7, both at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street, Sydney.
